Morgon Côte du Py

Morgon Côte du Py
Appellation Village
100% Gamay Grapes

The Beaujolais vineyard is situated in the Southern part of the Burgundy region. There are 22 000 hectares (55 000 acres) of vineyards planted in this area. Our vineyard is situated in Villié-Morgon.

Morgon is one of the 10 ‘Crus' of the Beaujolais. The production area of Morgon is about 1 100 hectares (2 750 acres) on a granite and schist soil. The Côte du Py is situated on the slopes over the village of Villié Morgon, and is made of granite and schist.

The wine is fermenting during 12 to 20 days in vats.

With a deep cherry colour, and nut and red fruits aromas, this wine has firm tannins, sometimes austere in their youth. The manganese (in the granite of the Py), that vineyard is needing, allows it to be kept several years. It will perfectly match with duck, pigeon, and others small games with plums, with or without sauce. It will be perfect with fine but quite strong cheeses.

Morgon Côte du Py is rather unusual becasue it can be kept quite a long time : 10 to 20 years in good conditions of humidity and temperature.
